Default Flight of a Steppe Eagle

Harlequin and myself were up North (Malaysia) birding/photographing and came across this Steppe Eagle (uncommon winter visitor) two weeks ago. The skies were heavily overcast, white clouds were everywhere. The eagle flew from one wooden pole and landed on the ground. Harlequin shot with a AFS600mm (+1.4XTC?) while I used the AFS300mmf/4D+1.4XTC. Both on Nikon D2h and handheld. My only wish is the lighting could be better so that we could use higher shutter speeds to freeze the motion. We combined a few shots, hope to share the experience with you.

Nice set I especially like the third one, caught at low level flight. Looks like a variety of raptors are found up North.

Are you guys planning to make a trip up North this weekend? If so, do let me know as I'd be interested to join in, if you don't mind.

Nice catch SK and Harlequin! This is one big raptor! Just one question...is the Steppe Eagle and Greater Spotted Eagle referring to the same species?

Wow, good catch there

I have a question about the 'Aquila Eagles' category which the Steppe Eagle belongs to...I've posted it in the 'General Talk about Birds' section : http://www.avianwatchasia.org/forums...read.php?t=142

I believe they are different. Harlequin has some images of the Greater Spotted Eagle taken during the Raptor Watch day.
