Somebody on a roll here for acquisitions!!!!
The Gitzo 1578L is the ultra long one! Can also use as "Teck Ko" to hang your clothes.
If you are shooting sports/events where your view of view is parallel to the horizon, directly mounting your lens to the monopod is fine.
If you are shooting macros and other subject that requires you to shoot at an angle, then the Kang Rinpoche in your arsenal will be perfect for the job.
As for macro lenses, I think a 100 mm will be too short for an outdoor person like you.

Macro....recommend the Tamron 180mm f3.5 Di Macro for insects and butterflies. The new Sigma 150mm f2.8 DG Macro seems not too bad too.

:lol:300mm f4 L IS can double as a macro lens for larger insects and butts. Either put ext. tube or 500D closeup filter for better results and more magnification. Actually ur 100-400 IS also can be a tele macro also mar.

that is one option but am leaning more towards Sigma.
prefer the bulit and looks of it.
Simon should be better, called him this morning and he should be discharged by now.
call him lah, should be home.
