Hi Gurus,
Been having problems getting fill flash on subjects slightly farther away and pushing my flash to full power only makes the recharge much slower and more battery hungry. So, I am looking into getting a flash extender for my sb800. Not sure what is a better model to get so need advice from you gurus. :)
Something not too expensive also .... :p
cheers

Anything I should look out for when I am using it? eg. setting, etc :pMake sure it is not pointed directly at the sun or the flash will be fried! I do not use any fill flash as far as possible because I often get the dreaded red eye effect.

when not using the "better beamer", keep the lens in your pocket to minimize chance of the flash getting fried. It makes it more tactical anyway, because our subjects are very aware of such things. Our soldiering skills tells us the same things. Flash is needed for extreme lighting, too dark (bring up shutter speeds) or too bright (fill in). The red eye can be reduced by placing the flash at an angle to the lens. Normally people use a Wimberly flash bracket to raise the height to change the angle, especially some flash may not clear the long lens hoods and cast a shadow on your subjects.

Thank you Joe for the safety advice. Learn something new today. I dun like to use flash too when I go into the field on foot as it is heavy. But when I end up on the wrong side of the sun, I really wished I had my flash on. As for the redeye, I get softwares to clear it for me.

It does look flimsy... and after a while it droops!!! then maybe the subject is not flashed at all!! MM Eric has the best flash extender. Some Metz brand..
Man, I just got mine yesterday at TCW. :) How does MM's flash extender look like?
Thx! :)

It covers the whole front end of the flash... but I think it is no more in production and it is model dependant.. (Metz).

frankly, would slicing the top off a omnibounce and then supergluing a fresnel lens (buy from big bookshop or popular) work?
that would technically be a $20 piece of work if you can get a second hand omnibounce or something like that.

hmm, I wish to get something more sturdy as I am at times quite rough with my equipment. Afraid it may not last a week.
