thanks for your suggestion bro.
as i already have the 100-400 L lens....the 120-300 does make much sense to me and i'm looking for a prime. ;)
the reason why i'm considering the 300 f2.8 cos it is considered to be one of if not the sharpest lens around, that is the Canon one lah.
not enough money therefore thinking of the Sigma and hopefully it is as good or nearly super as its brother from Canon.
cheers

My serious suggestion, dump the 100-400 for the 120-300. Can do other things with it, much more because of the f/2.8; 1.4xTCs. Willis should be really happy with the lens. Then get a true Canon prime, a 500mm f/4. That's a dream setup. Covers a wide range and truely evil. I went for a 400mm + 600mm combo with 1dmkii + 20D, the shorter FLs are abandoned.

Thought the 400 & 600 mm are a killer in terms of weight? All in the 5 kg region?

Cheers,wk has the 400mm f5.6 which is only 1.25kg. The 600 is 5.36kg.

:DMervin,
I tend to agree with wkcheah's points....the Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 is a newer version of its 300/3.8 brother, with HSM and presumably faster AF too, it is a critically acclaimed lens which has given good results, some of the birders here have used it before, including our own harlequin, wkcheah76 and now wilis128. If u asked them, they can attest to this lens being a great lens and sharp with either 1.4x or 2x TCs stacked.
Of course if you can afford it go for the Canon 300mm f2.8 (IS or non IS), combine with the 2 mk II TCs and your 20D you are looking at a potential lethal combo with great reach and speed, joeyao is using this combo to great effect now. :)
The Sigma 500mm f4.5 is also a good lens, tho you lose AF when you stack a 1.4x TC on it. (unless you tape the pins). But its is heavier and bigger than a Sigma 120-300mm f2.8.
