Hi guys,

Just came back from the photo shop here in BKK. I talked t the owner of the shop and we discussed about extra stuff you guys back in S'pore might want. Lenses are cheaper here, because we can have the 7% VAT refund so net price will definitely be cheaper. Here are a few things that might interest us birders.

In the shop I saw:
3x EF 400mm f4 DO IS USM
2x EF 500mm f4L IS USM (Make that one left, I snapped one up already! :blah: )
2x EF 300mm f2.8L IS USM
5x 1DMKII
1x 1DsMKII
4x 20D
A small mountain of 350D and 300D


etc. etc.

Guys, if you want me (Actually my dad...) to take something back from BKK to S'pore please let me know, so I can order the lenses or other stuff. Lenses are fine, because they have international warranty but camera bodies, maybe not. Please let me know by PM either here or ClubSnap by end of this week.

To Garion: Last 500mm f4L IS USM left! I honestly can say that it is cheaper than in S'pore, but not as cheap as ordering from US, but I can assure you that I'll do a test and check-up of the lens if you request so. :)

MM: The name of the shop is fotofile (www.fotofile.net) at MBK, the only photo store in Thailand that I will recommend. :) They stock almost anything, except support equipment like tripods and ball heads.

Just went to FotoFile yesterday. Instock are two very used Nikkor bird lenses...
600mm F4 AF-I + TC20E for 155000 Baht (condiition 5/10), and a 300mm F2.8 AFS-1 (condition 6/10) for 80000 B. Optics for both are still in good condition. They also have brand new Canon L 600 and 500mm f4 in stock.

Hey MM, that 500mm f4L box you saw at the shop was the box from my lens... hehe... They have another piece down at their other shop at Central Rama 3 and they will go to about 260000 baht.

The 600L is at 368000 baht...

1Ds is around the same price of the 600L (Gotta check again...)

The Nikkor 600mm was actually pretty good looking when I went there...

Therefore

The Nikkor 600mm was actually pretty good looking when I went there...

Optically the lens was reasonably good, but the exterior was rather used... the previous owner(s) really had high miliage put into that lens. I tried to bargain lower but they were not willing to lower below 155000B. Also it's really very slow in focusing and did not even auto-focus with my D70. Hence the cons were alot more than pros. Would have gotten it if they lowered the price to say 140000B.

I was also drooling at the 300f2.8 as it was really fast despite being only AFS-I. But priority goes to a 600 mm for me.
