I know one is 560mm and the other 420mm.
For use on a 1.3x FOV cam. Please advise in terms of usability handheld and monopod mount, colours, sharpness with TC and without....
Thanks a million.
Also, a poll will be conducted.
1. 400 f5.6 + 1.4x TC faster for tracking and AF or
2. 300 f4 IS L + 1.4x TC.

Although we normally go for reach in bird photography, I would recommand the 300mm f/4 in this case taking into consideration that the 300mm comes with IS and is much lighter than the 400mm.

400 f5.6 is reputed to be very fast but don't think there is AF with TC, unless it is 1D camera......

think the 300 f4 is cheaper. Not really, both cost almost the same price new, and 2nd hand as well.
I too would go for 300 f4 combo, the IS is an invaluable aid, esp. when shooting handheld.

Anyone selling the EF 400mm f5.6L USM? :dunno: I am looking for one.Perhaps look at CS B & S section? This lens is less common than the 300/f4 IS though (for 2nd hand sets).
