That's a 200 VR, without the hood, attached to the D2X.

Tested it out and I fell in love with it. Not sure how well it would do since it's kind of short for birds, but never tried it before.

Never tried but I do know of an owner of one of these babies (he also owns a 200-400mm VR). Too short for birds, I think even with a TC17EII attached. It was designed primarily for indoor court sports like volleyball & basketball where reach was not a real concern but lighting (speed) was.

Shape wise, I think it is the sexiest Nikon lens out there (hood off of course).

200 mm maybe slightly too short for any general bird imagery. Probably be best for forest nesting birds where you can get quite near (or more like cannot get too far due to trees and foliage) and it excels in the low light conditions.

Yeah, figured that it would be too short for most of the birds. On the other hand, I did manage to shoot some birds with the 105 VR earlier today.

Maybe a Leica M6 + 50mm!!!! Missed those days when you press the shutter 5 times a day.. you really think when you press. Now press once the bird is looking at you + good perch + good profile + good background... although technically challenging, especially in the hunt but you need to find the heart in doing it...

Hi Steven,

A warm welcome to AWA!

It is funny looking back at this thread when most of us posted our gear back in 2007 and since then how far things have progressed and how many family fortunes has been spent on this craft  since!

Hope that you enjoy your stay and if you are ever in our neck of the woods, please do drop us a note.
