According to these reviews, done by the same person with the same
equipment etc, the 70-200/2.8 is significantly sharper than the 70-200/2.8IS,
especially at the edges, even though the tests were done on a 1.6x cropped
sensor. I really doubt the differences are sample differences, neither lens
appears to be defective and the differences are larger than the tolerences
in modern lens manufacture.
