Robson's Birds of South East Asia contains all the birds found in Robson's Birds of Thailand plus several more. I think it is a 'must-have' for Singapore (and SEA) birders.
Frankly, there's no reason to get Robson's Birds of Thailand since Robson's Birds of SEA is available and i think the price is the same. I have both (from the $4 Carrefour sale a few years back) so I've actually compared to 2. Even if I were to go to Thailand, I think I would bring the SEA book rather than the Thailand book ;)

Nice work Lim. :thumb:
Here is my contribution:
Title :Birds; An Illustrated Field Guide to the
Birds of Singapore (Product ID : 0899813066008, Category : Birds, Format : Paperback, 226 pages. Edition : 1997)
Author :Lim K. S. and Dana Gardner
Where to buy :Nature's Niche (the shop at Botanic Gardens), Borders (Wheelock Place, Orchard Rd)
Price :S$47.50 (approx.) at Borders
Sorry, this content is visible to registered members only.
Remarks:
This field guide, written by one of the most experienced local birdwatchers out there, is considered the definitive guide to Singapore birds. Though not as thorough and with as many species as Craig Robson's Guide to Birds of SE-Asia, I feel that this is a worthwhile book to get for those wishing to learn how to ID and find out about Singapore's bird species, including extinct and probable species. With brightly coloured illustrations by Dana Gardner, I found it relatively easy to browse through to search for the species I wanted. There are interesting footnotes at the beginning of the book regarding Singapore's current (as of 1997) topology, well-known birding hotspots, and descriptions and photos of each site.

Hi all,
I am inspired by the gurus who share a few lobangs (locations) to keep us newbies going. I do not expect them to share any "sensitive" lobangs where the welfare of the birds might be compromised.
As I do not have any great lobangs to share, I can only offer to share the books that I have just bought from Amazon. Those books are listed in my previous post. I will bring them along at the next AWA outing if anyone is interested. Please PM me.

For those hardcore wader lovers...
This amazing photographic guide to shorebirds of the world contains 700 brilliant colour photographs and descriptions of 212 species of sandpipers, plovers, stilts, thick-knees, oystercatchers and associated families.
Sorry, this content is visible to registered members only.
For those who didn’t manage to get this book when it was published by Hamlyn in 1995, the good news is that the new reprint of this large format, hard cover volume is available from the Botanic Garden Shop at only S$ 21.50
(No, this is not a printing error, twenty-one dollars and fifty cents!).
If you do own it already, buy a few copies anyway to give to friends and spread the interest in waders …!

Just to collate all the feedback here for once :
If you bird in Malaysia & Singapore, you should at least have this :
New Holland Field Guide To Birds Of South East Asia - Craig Robson ISBN 1-84330-746-4 (2005 Edition is the latest, I think)
If you bird in Thailand and/or need a 2nd cross reference to compliment Craig Robson, you need this :
A Guide To Birds Of Thailand - Boonsong Lekagul & Philip Round ISBN974-85673-6-2 (2005 being the most recent addition)
If you are really into migratory shorebirds / waders, you really want this :
Photographic Guide To Waders Of The World - David Rosair & David Cottridge ISBN 0-7573-0960-0 (2004 being the most recent edition)
If you are a 1st timer up at Fraser's Hill and need a quick fast reference without spending too much, you need this :
Birds of Fraser's Hill - An Illustrated Guide and Checklist by Morten Strange
ISBN 9810499302 (2004 being the last edition)
If you want some of the local birding places up at Perak, the MNS Perak Branch has published a "Birds Of Perak" ISBN 983-43116-0-5 (2006 Edition) which is the best local guide book on locations and species to see.
If you are planning a trip to Sabah or Sarawak you need a quick and cheap guide book which describes the endemics (species which are unique or confined to Borneo), you definitely want A Photographic Guide to Birds of Borneo, Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and Kalimantan by G.W.H. Davison and Chew Yen Fook ISBN 1859746977
THE definitive book on Borneo would be The Birds of Borneo by B.E.Smythies ISBN 978-0050015308 but getting a copy nowadays is next to impossible. Worth it's weight in gold...TSWong - you got one right?? right???
If you want to learn some of the finer points of bird photography (not all being relevant to our bird species or shooting conditions) but nevertheless inspiring in its' gorgeous photography, go buy Arthur Morris's Art Of Bird Photography II online (available only on CD / Download in pdf from http://www.birdsasart.com/books.html#THE%20ART%20OF%20BIRD%20PHOTOGRAPHY%20I I)
This one supercedes the original soft cover The Art of Bird Photography: The Complete Guide to Professional Field Techniques ISBN 0-8174. Anyway the original one deals a lot with photography using film cameras but basic techniques apply. If you have not seen it, just go for the soft copy VerII. I have both and find them to be invaluable for technique improvement.
As you can see, there is no single "best" book to own (wouldn't it be so easy?). It all depends on where and how you want to bird.
