Hi
I saw so many nice photos from the D2x and I decided to
try one and I think the 12MP looks great, even the 6MP crop
mode is 'not bad'. Focus was faster than the D2hS. The was
so many plovers and so many chicks running behind their mothers
and I manage to come across these which frooze.

This is Hi Speed Crop mode 6MP, AFC Iso500 reduced to posting size

This is D2X 12MP photo reduced to posting size. The tonal range
is really fantastic. It show how the Plover chick is fully camo.
The original pic is MONSTER SIZE very scary.

All shots on d2x are handheld and retained enough information to be
thrown into Corel Paint

This is another chick from the D2hS. The LBCAST sensor 4MP vs 12MP
is apparent. More eyes = more detail. All d2hs shots uses a wimberly
gimbal and tripod

Here is a crop from the D2hS..

D2X wins for tonal range and detail. D2hS you must get REALLY CLOSE!
I hope this helps your purchase decision.

Sierra one seems to be growing faster than the rest. Good catch on the male in the first picture, I say it is a well done shot!

Bro,

In my opinion, the lighting and subject in image #2 and #3 are different, they are not a good gauge to show differences between D2x and D2hs.

Viewing a crop image (at 100%) taken by both cameras on tripod at about the same time (one after another), on the same subject where the lighting/exposure are similar will yield more convincing results.

Regards. :)

I have to agree with SK on the comparison. It need to be done on exactly the same subject(need not to be a bird but building, landscape etc) and same lighting condition.

BTW, very nice #1.

Ah, yes lah I know but sometimes being too TECHNICAL can
blight the obvious.. The D2X certainly have more 'eyes'
to capture more info , but it definitely is a camera with
more tonal range capability as documented elsewhere.

sometimes it takes only the eyes to see it. Your eyes
can detect a perfect gamut of tonal ranges and more
color than a electronic capture device.

I have been using a 1DSMKII recently and the color
and tonal range from that full frame CMOS sensor
is spectacular :p

One snapshot and you know there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Anyway the D2X HUNTS with focus at 400MM with the
200-400 lens. I verified this many times yesterday.

So its a mixed bag.

Actually I think it is the equipment. I do the aga -aga settings
and anyhow fire away. It seems that every shot taken with
the D2X I am playing with is much sharper and comes with
much greater detail. As you know I am more of a mapping
person than taking photos.

For D2hS I now believe that you need to get CLOSE, which is very
difficult with birds and animals..

The plover was shot from the car window. It was some distance
away , engine running VR on with 1.7TC. A super dampening foam used for packing computer harddisk was used to cushsion the 200-400 lens.

The Aircon was turned off so that vibration from the compressor
was cut off. I increased the Aperature to F8 after taking test
shots to get more DOF. Sun was very bright, bluesky.

Because it was some distance away the effect is as though the plover
is at ground level. So it looks sort of nicer.

With the CHICK , it was more of a documentary shot.

Thanks to all for the compliments
